A
Airbag
Part of the Supplemental Restraint System of modern vehicles.
Anti-Lock Braking [ABS]
ABS work by sensing wheel lockup and dropping the pressure to the brakes, preventing skidding and allowing you to maintain control of your vehicle. Tests have shown that ABS decreases the distance needed to bring you car to a stop, hopefully allowing you to avoid a collision.

D
Deployment Algorithm
The software instructions to determine that a crash has ocurred, and triggering the airbags. Early systems checked for velocity change of the vehicle.newer systems are using more sofisticated algorithms due to the number of airbags involved.
DVOM Digital Volt Ohm Meter
The DVOM is used for electrical measurements on airbag repairs, because it does not send current through the system. Small amounts of current through the wrong circuit will deploy the airbag!!

E
ECU

Hidden Damage
A Collision Repair Estimate only documents the Visible damage to your vehicle. The "tear down" Portion of a collision repair, reveals additional work required to repair the car properly. This is the category of repair that is included on the "Supplement" portion of a repair Order. So it is not really hidden, but it is part of the collision repair process.
Head Protection System [HPS]
An Airbag introduced in 1997 by BMW,consisting of an inflatable tubular device that deploys diagonally across the front side window.

O
One Time Fasteners
Nuts and bolts that are used Once. When certain parts are replaced, the fasteners are also replaced. One example are the forward SENSORS. They come with new mounting hardware and fastenrs.
One Time Use
Components that function Once. They perform their task and are replaced. Most SENSORS fall into this category, as well as some of the rear SENSORS and some of the SRS Electronic Control Units.

S
Side Impact Protection [SIP]
Most SIP systems are tubular reinforcements of HSLA steel manufactured into the doors, as an additional safety feature in side impact collisions, to maintain the integrity of the passanger compartment in a collision.
SRS
Supplemental Restraint System. Airbags are supplemental restraint systems. So are Side Impact door beams, HSLA Steels, anti-lock brakes, 'run flat' tires, etc.
