Am I a RENEGADE? Margaret Mendoza of the Associated Press Thinks SO!!!!
The etoy.com vs eToys.com saga has taken an amazing turn.
In a Associated Press news story by MARTHA MENDOZA AP Business Writer Datelined Wednesday January 26 3:40 PM ET:
"The settlement marks the conclusion of yet another controversy over domain names as renegade Internet developers create controversial Web sites offensive to corporations."
Let me see if I understand this statement.
Are you saying that the Internet is an exclusive club for corporations?
or Are you suggesting that "free" speech belongs to those that can afford it? or
Are you saying if I believe that the Internet has room for all then I am a renegade? or If I speaks out against reverse domain highjacking, then I am a renegade?
To be clear and fair I went to Merriam-Webster Online and looked up Renegade.
ren·e·gade

Let me see here........
Function: noun
1 : a deserter from one faith, cause, or allegiance to another
A: I have not deserted or broken faith in my belief of the promise of the Internet for All
2 : an individual who rejects lawful or conventional behavior
B:I have never advocated unlawful behaviours on the Internet to resolve differences of opinion. ( i may out write you , i may out post you, i may even Ignore you, but i will never, ever, deny you or anyone else the same freedom i enjoy on the internet)
Function: adjective
1 : having deserted a faith, cause, or religion for a hostile one
My faith in the internet and all it promises will die when you pry my cold dead fingers off my keyboard
2 : having rejected tradition
letting litigation determine the future of the internet is not a "tradition" to be encouraged
Nope I'm not a renegade. You must be talking about other folks.
I have called your office (1-408-293-2324) and you are not in. You may be tracking down other renegades or tracking down a new lead on a hot story. So I will send you this message in an email.
Before I finish this, I would like to increase your vocabulary. the word of the day at Merriam-Webster Online today is: laissez-faire
laissez-faire • \leh-say-FAIR or lay-zay-FAIR\ • (noun)
1 : a doctrine opposing governmental interference in economic affairs beyond the minimum necessary for the maintenance of peace and property rights
2 : a philosophy or practice characterized by a usually deliberate abstention from direction or interference especially with individual freedom of choice and action
If you would like to call me a laissez-fairey, I will step up to the plate and wear it proudly.
I am not a renegade.
Thank you for your time.
