Free Speech Wins

Yesterday the US Supreme Court declared the Childrens Internet Protection Act Unconstitutional. But then, most of us knew that.

The victory here is significant as the court recognized that speech is protected, and librarians are not baby sitters. If your fears run to your children running to the library to view pornography, you might consider improving your parenting skills.

Spam wars

The European Union has moved forward on a Spam Ban outlining some Online Privacy Rules, most notably the 'opt-in' method of marketing. This is not perfect legislation but is moving in the right direction.
