what's hot what's not
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the organization developed to get the internet out of the hands of the US Government.
Network Solutions/Verisign was the original company for registering Domain Names and maintaining the Domain Name System database. The DNS is the database that translates the www.whatever.com, .net., org into IP addresses so that when you type www.lemurzone.com in your browser or find a link to us, the DNS database will direct your browser to the computer that holds the files that make up my domain and bring them to your browser.
We can say with certainty that the web was born 10 Years Ago today.
Traditional Publishing Conglomerates are burning Tim Berners Lee in effigy today. It will probably make them feel good in the short term but will do them no good in the long term. The notion of giving freely or sharing is alien, and they bring many volumes of rules to demonstrate the superiority of their society. They believe that no other way is right, and make great noise when a new form of community is expressed.
The web is not about profit and control. Copyright on the web is an Oxymoron. Propriatary closed systems are on life support. The loud noises you hear are the publishing beasts roaring their frustrations as they sink into the quicksand of technology evolution.
The web is about information and sharing, where we celebrate the beauty of every individual who publishes on it.
In other news, we are proud to point to the birth of Independants Day. A new site celebrating the personal side of the web.
