The Clown Suit Rule
One of the methods used by desperate businesses in need of revenue is to place somebody in a Clown Suit outside their business in hopes of getting folks to stop in. The Clown Suit is an excellent signpost to the impending failure of the business employing them. The only exception to this rule is the Clown Suit Rental Store.
George Bush is using the Clown Suit Rule in a pathetic bid to prop up the elections of the Republicans in congressional and senate races across the country. 40% of the country will buy this. They are republicans and that is it. 40% of the country will not. They are democrats and that is that. The 20% that do not play either of these two sides have a major problem. Most of them will not vote. Those that do are true believers. They are wrapped in other ideologies and are for the most part single issue voters.
I am a single issue voter. I believe in the freedom engendered in the web. The promise of democracy. This leads me into a swamp of other issues. Freedom of expression, copyrights, privacy, and the belief that the internet can bring us together. Politicians do not yet understand the danger inherent in an informed electorate. Education is a rhetorical football in the political arena. It is not being taken seriously on a local, state or national level.
In 1988 Frank Zappa said:
Let's not be too tough on our own ignorance. It's the thing that makes America great. If America weren't incomparably ignorant, how could we have tolerated the last eight years?
Halloween was a disappointment this year. 6 goblins total. Gone are the days of constant doorbell ringing, new faces and costumes. The perverts and sick animals are winning.
The End of Bingo
One of the things I like to do is play Bingo. (I am an old fart and I can) I play at the casinos because the jackpots are bigger. It is relaxing way to spend time. It is not as expensive as playing cards of which I have no interest or aptitude anymore. It is also a hell of a lot cheaper than the slots.
That is changing with this election. Even if none of the Arizona gaming propositions on the ballot get passed, bingo is going away. The reason I know this is that the casinos have already drawn up blueprints for replacing the bingo halls with slot machines and card tables. These changes are already out to bid. Plus my local casino has already announced the end of bingo.
The good news on not passing these propsitions is that the Arizona legislature cannot use the Indians money to bail themselves out of the budget messes they have created.
Bad for me bingo wise, but good for the Indians. The sooner that the tribes are self reliant the sooner we can close the Dept. of Indian Affairs. Maybe we can move that money into the classrooms around the country.
It's Time to Stop the Music
