The Year of Voting Dangerously
This is a particularly ugly campaign season in Arizona. From what I can tell it is ugly all over. The negative ads have so overrun the airwaves on TV that I fear the economy will take a hit as there seems to be no advertisements for anything else. According to most sources, negative ads work because your thinking gets done for you. It seems to be easier to be against something, rather than for something. You don't need a defense against something. Somebody else has already done all of your thinking for you. It takes courage and thought to defend being for something. I have known hookers and dope fiends with more character than the current slate of candidates. It is the candidates fault for being pulled along by the agenda of the Majors. That money has doomed politics is a fact of life this campaign cycle. The political process is broken. The major political parties are gigantic money funnels. The minors are deparately trying to catch up.
Indian Gaming is big news in Arizona. They are making money. I support this endevour every time I play Bingo. The state wants to use them to dig their ass out of the 1 Billion dollar deficit they have legislated themselves into. There are three initiatives on the ballot designed to screw them in one way or another. Two by the Indians, one by the out of state dog and hourse track owners. I will be voting NO on all three of them.
I will be voting this year, just like every other year. My choices will be against, rather than for.
But the important thing is to VOTE. Even if you can't bring yourself to pull the lever, punch the chad, or make your mark, at the very least Register so that as we work on fixing the system you will be in a position that your vote Will count.
Looking for Amanda - Update
Amanda called yesterday. That part of the mystery is solved. A Special Thank You to the folks online that I have broken bread with and those who I have not, who mentioned it and backed my family up in our search.
The hardest part of parenting is watching someone go down a road that you have been down, knowing that your detour signs will not be seen.
Building Accessible Websites
Received Joe Clark's new book Building Accessible Websites, yesterday.
"Why build accessible Websites? GREED! Quite simply, I want it all, and so should you. Give us everything you've got. Give us everything there is to give."
It gets better.
It's Time to Stop the Music
I want you to stop buying Commercial Music and going to Movies for six months.
